The air Youth of America was initiated in 1937, in cooperation with Standard Oil, to help youth enter aviation careers. The organization, approaching 2 million members, provided information for all fields of aviation; piloting, mechanics, administration, design, communication, etc.  Articles were published in Boys Life, Popular Mechanics, and Model  Airplane News had a monthly column from 1941 until 1942. A five part program was developed starting with a hand-launch glider leading to a contest type outdoor rubber powered model. Guillow, Megow, and  Comet all produced kits for the 5 step program. Cleveland and Berkley also produced kits affiliated with the AYA. The Sept.-Nov 2021 issue of Flying Aces Club News ran a copy of what was identified as  the Comet Model & Supply Co. Kit NO. AYA-4. ©1940. Plan was scaled to P-30 & Embryo size. Only significant change was to increase the tail moment from 15% of wing span to 40%. The Embryo version has a 19” span and  49 sq. in. area.  Our final flying weight is 28 grams with 6 strands of 1/16” rubber motor. A cockpit with head rest, wheel pants and exhaust were also added for Flying Aces.
