The 1/2A Shocer, designed by Mel Schmidt, was selected for NFFS one-design competition in 2019 . The BMJR kit was developed from a pdf file provided by Bill Vanderbeek. Unfortunately we have not been able to find any plan with an exact design date, but the Shocer has been identified to also be flown in Classic Gas, making the publican after 1956. The BMJR kit provides parts for 2 configurations; one with a 48” span with 282 sq. in of area , and a 44” span version with 252 sq. in. of area. Smaller model is achieved by eliminating 1 “bay in each wing. Final flying weight of our model with TD .049, polyspan covering and Klass-Kote epoxy finish is 8.5 oz. with tracker.
