Tom Hutchinson developed the ZINGO in 1970-71 for FAI competition, and set an open class AMA record in FAI. Design was published in the August 1972 Flying Models. Model has a 60” span and 440 sq. in wing area. Stab has 132 s. in. for a total of 572. 1972 FAI rules requires a 26.3 oz flying weight for this size model. Therefore Tom elected to “beef-up” the structure using 1/8 balsa ribs and some spruce spars. We considered using as lighter structure for NFFS one-design then found weight saving to be less than 1 oz. Our 1st kit built ZINGO has a respectable flying weight of 22.1 oz.
