Some models just catch your attention and they need to be built. Looking thru some past issues of Flying ACES; the Sky-Scraper caught my eye. I called AMA and got a plan of the original Sky-Scraper (Scientific Model Airplane Co. 1940) and also a copy of Marks’s article in the March 1994 issue of Flying Models for the Skyscraper Special an FAC Embryo Endurance version. We built both configurations; the 1940 Sky-Scraper and the 1994 Skyscraper Special, released as a duel kit, B-216.
The BMJR Skyscraper 40 is a 40”span RC version of the “Special” with a flat bottom airfoil and dihedral for rudder , elevator and throttle control. Our model has a 40” span with 173 sq.in. wing area. Final flying weight with a 17 3/4 oz. battery is 3/800mAh LiPo. The Free flight linage has come thru with a very docile/stable flyer perfect for slow pass touch and goes. Our aerobatics have been limited so far to loops and snap rolls without problems.
